Israeli Strike on Gaza City Car Kills Two, Hospital Says

An Israeli airstrike struck a car in Gaza City on Sunday, killing two people, according to al-Shifa Hospital, which received the bodies.

A resident of the city, Ahmad Shreim, said he was at home when he heard the sound of the strike and rushed to the scene. He described finding two badly mangled bodies, with nothing remaining above the chest.

"They had no heads," Shreim said, adding that he had run out to check on his daughter, who was at kindergarten, because he feared for her safety. "There is no safe place in Gaza; there is nothing. Our life is full of fear."

Footage from the scene showed children gathered near the wrecked vehicle, smoke rising from it and blood on the ground. Wrapped bodies of those killed were also seen.

The Israeli military said it was aware of the strike and that it had targeted two Hamas members.

Sunday's deaths add to the toll among Palestinians in Gaza since a fragile ceasefire deal in October sought to end more than two years of war between Israel and Hamas. While the heaviest fighting has eased since the truce took hold, Israeli forces have continued to carry out repeated airstrikes, killing 1,369 Palestinians, according to health officials in Gaza.
