Gaza City Mourns Seven Killed in Israeli Strike on Seaside Cafe
Seven Palestinians, including a child, killed in Israeli strike on Gaza City cafe; funerals held at Shifa hospital.
Mourners gathered at Shifa hospital in Gaza City on Wednesday morning to hold funeral services for seven people, including a child, who were killed in an Israeli airstrike the previous day.
Families wept and prayed over the bodies, which were wrapped in white shrouds, before carrying them away from the hospital. The sound of mourners chanting "God is greater" filled the air as the procession moved out.
The strike targeted a seaside cafe in the city's Shati area. Health officials said more than a dozen others were wounded in the attack.
The Israeli military said it had struck Hamas commanders in the Shati area who were allegedly planning attacks against Israeli forces.
The attack comes amid a fragile calm following a ceasefire that took hold in October, ending the heaviest phase of fighting in a conflict that has spanned more than two years. Despite the truce, Israeli forces have conducted repeated airstrikes, which Gaza health officials say have killed at least 1,273 Palestinians since the ceasefire began.
