Two Killed in Separate Israeli Strikes in Gaza, Health Officials Say

Two people were killed in separate Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to health officials, with the bodies of victims brought to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

One strike hit the Jabaleya refugee camp in the northern part of the territory, killing one person and injuring several others, Gaza's Health Ministry said. A second strike, occurring around the same time east of Gaza City, killed another person, officials at Shifa Hospital said.

Israel's military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the two strikes.

Earlier on Tuesday, an Israeli strike on an apartment west of Gaza City killed two people and wounded five others, Shifa Hospital officials said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the overnight operation targeted Izz al-Din Bik, a commander in Hamas's northern Gaza brigade. The Israeli military said Bik was involved in plotting attacks and recruiting new members.

Hamas released a statement confirming Bik's death, describing him as one of the main overseers of the October 7, 2023, attacks on southern Israel, which killed more than 1,200 people.

The deaths are the latest since a ceasefire took effect nearly a year ago. More than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed since then, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which maintains detailed records generally seen as reliable. The ministry does not distinguish between civilians and militants but says women and children make up around half of the fatalities.

At Shifa Hospital, an ambulance carrying victims arrived as people and medics carried the wounded out. Mourners were seen crying over a relative's body, and later a vehicle carrying a body left the hospital.

Ahmad Qadas, displaced from Jabaliya, described the situation: "The strike has hit; there are martyrs and injuries. For God's sake, find a solution for us—for God's sake. It is constant bombing day after day; we are fed up. Either kill us all and put us out of our misery, or do something else—but you cannot simply watch us every day like this. It is not right. We are dying near the Yellow Line, and no one cares about us. People are dying there—strikes, martyrs, and injuries—and at night, we come under fire."
