Chennai Police Book 'Gem Granite' Veeramani in Second POCSO Act Case
A fresh POCSO Act case has been registered against 'Gem Granite' R. Veeramani in Chennai, based on a complaint that he sexually abused a woman's minor daughter.
The Chennai police have registered a second case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against businessman R. Veeramani, known as 'Gem Granite', police sources said on Monday.
The fresh case follows a complaint from a woman who alleged that her minor daughter was sexually abused by the 85-year-old businessman. Veeramani is already lodged in Puzhal prison in connection with a separate POCSO Act case, and investigators indicated he was likely to be arrested in the new matter as well.
Meanwhile, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai police is examining statements from four other women who have claimed they were sexually abused by the businessman in the past.
Investigators are also looking into a complaint from another woman, who said her daughter — allegedly abused by Veeramani — had ended her life. The incident is said to have occurred several years ago. According to the complaint, a report was filed with the local police at the time but no action was taken.
