Third drone and explosives found in Leipzig/Halle airport attack probe

German investigators have uncovered a third drone and suspected explosives connected to this month's attempted attack on Leipzig/Halle airport, according to German media reports on Tuesday.

The drone was discovered on August 14, ten days after the initial incident, in an area west of the airport. At the same location, investigators reportedly found around 50 grams of a substance believed to be hexogen, a military-grade explosive.

The discovery adds to an ongoing investigation into the August 4 incident, when an explosives-laden drone was found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft used for military supplies. Investigators also suspect that a second drone may have collided with a DHL cargo plane shortly after the airport was temporarily shut down.

The airport serves as a significant cargo and military logistics hub, used by NATO and Ukraine's Antonov Airlines for transporting military supplies.

Security sources cited in the reports have suggested possible Russian intelligence involvement in the attempted attack, an accusation that Moscow has denied. The federal prosecutor's office has not yet commented on the latest findings.
