Panda Le Le Flourishes in Sichuan Homeland After Singapore Return

Giant panda Le Le, who returned to China from Singapore in early 2024, has settled comfortably into life at the Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The five-year-old panda arrived at the facility on January 16, 2024, when he was just two years old. Following a month-long quarantine period, he was introduced to an enclosure shared with twin pandas Qing Zai and Qing Bao. This social arrangement is said to have helped Le Le adjust quickly to his new environment.

His breeder, Liao Youping, reports that Le Le has maintained a healthy appetite for bamboo and supplemental food. His weight has steadily increased and now exceeds 130 kilograms. During cooler weather, the panda is notably active outdoors.

In April 2025, Le Le moved into his own spacious enclosure featuring both outdoor and indoor areas. Caretakers describe him as having a refined temperament, often leaning by the doorway to enjoy cool air while eating bamboo shoots during warmer days.

Given the recent hot weather, Le Le's routine involves morning outdoor exercise, followed by time indoors once air conditioning is switched on around 10 a.m., according to Liao.

This August, caretakers marked Le Le's fifth birthday with a specially prepared treat. From a young cub to a healthy adult panda, Le Le's successful adaptation highlights the effectiveness of the base's care and conservation efforts.
