Freshworks founder Girish Mathrubootham turns producer for Sarpatta Parambarai 2

Freshworks founder Girish Mathrubootham is moving from the audience to the producer's chair. He is set to back filmmaker Pa. Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai 2 (Second Round), the follow-up to the 2021 boxing drama.

The original Sarpatta Parambarai, a sports action film, was released directly on Amazon Prime Video in 2021 after its theatrical run was called off because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Actor Arya, a close friend of Mathrubootham, is said to have played a key role in bringing the entrepreneur on board. Arya also posted on X about the project, writing, "The origin of Sarpatta Parambarai begins," and tagging both Ranjith and Mathrubootham.

Mathrubootham's connection to cinema runs deep. Those close to him note that he rarely misses a Rajinikanth film, and his admiration for the superstar carried into his professional life: when Freshworks filed for its initial public offering on Nasdaq, he gave the financial filing the code name "Project SuperStar".

That enthusiasm has also been visible closer to home. A former colleague recalled that Mathrubootham would routinely book first-day, first-show tickets for his teammates. "When I say teammates, I'm talking about several hundreds of tickets. This is something he followed regularly," the colleague said.

The sequel marks a new chapter for Mathrubootham, whose long-standing passion for Tamil cinema now extends to backing one of its most anticipated projects.
