GM University Davangere to launch nine health science UG programmes

GM University in Davangere is set to introduce nine undergraduate programmes in health and allied health sciences starting in the 2026-27 academic year. The move is aimed at addressing the rising demand for skilled professionals across the healthcare sector.

Announcing the courses at a press conference on Saturday, faculty members said the curriculum has been designed to combine theoretical instruction with practical training and clinical exposure. The programmes span physiotherapy, occupational therapy, optometry, medical laboratory sciences, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, medical radiology and imaging technology, anaesthesia and operation theatre technology, and dialysis therapy technology.

Each course is structured around specific skill sets. The physiotherapy programme will focus on injury management, pain relief, mobility disorders, and rehabilitation. Occupational therapy will train students to assist individuals with physical, mental, or developmental conditions in achieving greater daily independence. The optometry course covers vision testing and eye-care management, while the medical laboratory sciences track emphasises diagnostic testing of blood, urine, and other clinical samples.

Nutrition and dietetics will explore food science, clinical nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices. The psychology programme will examine human behaviour and emotional processes, laying a foundation for careers in healthcare, education, community services, and research. Radiology and imaging technology will cover X-ray, CT, and MRI techniques. Anaesthesia and operation theatre technology will deal with surgical assistance, equipment upkeep, and theatre management, and the dialysis therapy programme will train students in dialysis procedures and patient care.

University officials said the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences will stress experiential learning, research, and innovation, supported by modern infrastructure and experienced faculty. Students will also be encouraged to identify real-world healthcare problems and develop practical solutions, with an emphasis on professional ethics and community-oriented service.
