Goa Casino Director Escapes Unhurt in Porvorim Firing, Police Probe Business Rivalry Angle

The director of an offshore casino in Goa had a narrow escape on Friday night when two unidentified assailants opened fire at him in Porvorim, near Panaji. Police said the attack took place at approximately 8:47 pm as the director, Srinivas Nayak of the offshore casino Majestic Pride, was leaving the Neo Majestic hotel and about to enter his car.

According to a senior police officer, the two men fired two to three rounds at Nayak. In response, one of his bodyguards fired three shots in defence. The assailants managed to flee the scene by crossing the highway, and no one was injured in the exchange of fire.

Nayak told media that he was about to sit in his car when the attackers fired at him, and his bodyguards retaliated. He confirmed that the assailants escaped and that police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

Police said they are recording the victim's statement and have initiated a probe. The motive for the shooting has not yet been established, and the accused remain unidentified. A police officer said the case is being investigated from all angles, including the possibility of business rivalry as the driving factor behind the attack.
