Goa CM Orders Probe Into Road Rage Complaint Against BJP MLA's Son

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday that he has ordered an inquiry into an alleged road rage incident involving the son of a sitting legislator.

The complaint was filed at Curchorem police station by Shantaram Kudchadkar, a senior citizen from the town, who named Rahul Faldessai — son of Cumbarjua Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Rajesh Faldessai — and his associates.

According to the complaint, the incident took place on Saturday at around 8.15 pm while Kudchadkar was travelling to Margao with his daughter-in-law and grandchildren. As their SUV neared the Pontemol junction, another SUV was parked diagonally across the road, blocking the middle portion of the carriageway.

The complainant said the obstruction caused a traffic pile-up for five to ten minutes, after which his daughter-in-law began honking to alert the occupants of the parked vehicle. Rahul Faldessai, the primary occupant, is alleged to have initially ignored the honking before stepping out and abusing her.

Kudchadkar alleged that instead of clearing the road, the occupants switched on the parking lights, returned to their vehicle and continued to block the public road. In the complaint, he said the entire side of the road was clear for the other vehicle to proceed, suggesting the blockade was deliberate and kept his family restrained for 10 to 15 minutes. He added that when he approached the car and knocked gently on the door to ask them to move, the windows remained rolled up and there was no response.

The family then continued towards Margao, but Kudchadkar alleged that Rahul Faldessai and two or three others, armed with a rod or stick, made aggressive gestures as if to attack their vehicle. Fearing for their safety, the family tried to speed away along the extreme side of the road, he said.

The complaint further alleges that the accused chased the family in their SUV up to Ambedkar Circle and forced them to halt briefly before speeding away across the signal towards Quepem.

Police confirmed that a complaint has been received. A senior officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a preliminary inquiry has been initiated and the contents of the complaint will be verified. A decision on whether to register a first information report will be taken after the inquiry is completed, the officer said, adding that a challan is being issued under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Attempts to reach BJP MLA Rajesh Faldessai for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered.
