Three bodies recovered after family jumps into Godavari; one survives
Bodies of three family members recovered from Godavari river in West Godavari district after a suicide bid; wife survived.
In a tragic incident in West Godavari district, the bodies of three members of a family were recovered from the Godavari river near Badava village on Sunday. The search operation was launched after the family of four jumped into the river a day earlier.
The deceased have been identified as Namuburu Srinivas (45), his 16-year-old son, and his 12-year-old daughter. Srinivas's wife, Padmini (42), survived the attempt after being rescued by local fishermen who were in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
According to police officials, the family resorted to the extreme step due to financial difficulties. A suicide note recovered from their residence reportedly cited financial struggles as the reason. The family had sold their house and gold jewellery to meet their obligations and had also mortgaged a house site in Palakollu town.
Srinivas was a milk vendor, while his wife ran a pan shop from their residence in Tanuku. Their children were students.
Yelamanchili Sub-Inspector M. Raj Kumar confirmed that the bodies were handed over to family members after post-mortem procedures at the Palakollu government hospital.
Authorities have urged those facing suicidal thoughts to seek help and have provided a helpline number for the West Godavari District Police.
