Police arrest two men for posing as film producer and assistant to steal gold chains from married women in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru police have arrested two men for allegedly posing as a film producer and his assistant to steal gold chains from married women. The accused, identified as Santhosh (34) and Punit Kumar (24), both residents of Davangere, were taken into custody near the KSRTC bus station in Majestic last month.
The arrests came after a woman from Gollarahatti in north Bengaluru filed a complaint with the Yeshwantpur police on July 12. Investigations revealed that the duo was involved in at least three other similar cases.
According to police, Santhosh created fake social media accounts to befriend married women, claiming to be a film producer with influential connections. He would invite them for dinner and send Kumar, posing as his assistant, to pick them up. Kumar would then take the women to a lodge, telling them that Santhosh would join them shortly. Meanwhile, he would steal the gold chains from their bags and flee.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in other thefts. They led police to a jewellery shop in Davangere and a lodge in Sumanahalli, where stolen items were hidden. Police recovered a gold ingot, a gold chain, and a mobile phone, totalling 130 grams of gold valued at ₹19 lakh.
The arrests have helped solve cases registered at Yeshwantpur, Kengeri, and Kamakshipalya police stations. The accused are currently in judicial custody.
