Golmaal 5 to Hit Screens on January 8, 2027, With Gujarat in Focus
Golmaal 5 will release on January 8, 2027, with the makers banking on Gujarat's Makar Sankranti holidays and a clear two-week run before Love & War.
The wait for the next instalment of the Golmaal franchise is over. Golmaal 5 will arrive in cinemas on January 8, 2027, with an entertaining motion poster featuring the principal cast unveiled alongside the announcement.
The date marks a departure from the franchise's recent release pattern. Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010) and Golmaal Again (2017) all opened around Diwali, giving them the benefit of a major festival holiday. Golmaal 5, like the original Golmaal (2006), will instead release without that advantage.
The choice of January 8 is understood to be a considered one, with the Gujarat market playing a significant role. By that weekend, audiences are expected to have exhausted the big December releases, including King and Avengers: Doomsday, leaving room for a fresh offering. Rohit Shetty's films have historically performed exceptionally well in Gujarat, and the state will observe a major holiday for Makar Sankranti on Thursday, January 14, with January 15 also functioning as a holiday of sorts. The makers anticipate a substantial boost in the second week as a result.
The Gujarat factor has shaped the release strategy before. Singham (2011), which carried a predominantly Marathi flavour, was embraced by audiences in the state from day one, with a cineplex in Ahmedabad reportedly giving the film a standing ovation after a show. Golmaal Again later set all-time records in centres such as Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot, becoming one of only four films in 2017 to cross the Rs. 30 crore mark in the Gujarat/Saurashtra circuit, alongside Baahubali 2, Raees and Tiger Zinda Hai. No other film that year crossed even Rs. 15 crore in the circuit. Sooryavanshi (2021), released when cinemas operated at 50% occupancy during the pandemic, surpassed the lifetime collections of films including Simmba, Kabir Singh and Dhoom 3 in the Gujarat/Saurashtra circuit within six days.
January 14 was also considered for the release, but the arrival of Love & War on January 21 would have cut short the film's run. A January 8 opening gives Golmaal 5 a clean two-week window.
