Speeding Thar Kills Scooter Rider in Greater Noida West, Wife Injured

A 40-year-old man was killed and his wife seriously injured when a speeding Thar struck their scooter in Greater Noida West on Tuesday evening. The couple was riding near the Itera area when the vehicle hit them, throwing both from the scooter.

The man, identified as Neeraj, was declared dead at a nearby hospital, where his wife is still undergoing treatment. Bystanders alerted the police and called for an ambulance after a large crowd gathered at the spot. Police and local residents rushed the injured couple to the hospital.

The driver of the Thar abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police have seized the SUV and begun a search for the accused. Inquest proceedings have been completed and the body sent for a post-mortem examination.

A formal complaint is being registered based on information from the victim's family, and further legal action will follow, police said.

The crash adds to a string of recent hit-and-run incidents involving Thar SUVs. On Saturday, a 57-year-old scooter rider, Naval Sharma of Jaipur's Sanganer area, died after a speeding Thar hit his two-wheeler while he was on his way to work. In a separate episode in Gurugram on Friday night, a man repeatedly rammed his Thar into a cab carrying two of his friends after a verbal altercation; no one was injured, but the cab was badly damaged and a video of the incident circulated on social media.
