Karnataka extends Gruha Jyothi survey deadline to September 30
Karnataka extends Gruha Jyothi survey deadline to Sept 30; 70% of 68.86 lakh beneficiaries verified so far.
The Karnataka government has extended the deadline for the door-to-door survey of Gruha Jyothi scheme beneficiaries by one month, pushing the completion date to September 30. The verification drive, which began on July 1, was originally scheduled to conclude on August 31.
According to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (BESCOM), there were 68.86 lakh Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries across its eight districts as of May 2026. By August 31, around 46.7 lakh beneficiaries — approximately 70% — had been surveyed.
BESCOM Managing Director N. Shivashankara has urged the remaining beneficiaries to cooperate with meter readers and keep necessary documents ready when staff visit their homes from September 1. Officials noted that some residents in Bengaluru apartments have not been cooperating, and have appealed to apartment associations to allow staff access for the survey.
For locked houses, meter readers will attempt up to three visits at different times. During each visit, staff will record the property's latitude and longitude and mark it as "DL" (door lock) in the mobile app. An SMS with the meter reader's name and contact number will then be sent to the beneficiary's registered mobile number, up to three times, enabling them to get in touch and complete registration.
Vacant properties can be marked as "VACANT" in the app only after a physical visit and location recording by staff.
Beneficiaries needing assistance can reach BESCOM helplines at 9480816111, 9480816112, 9480816113, and 9480816114.
