Cheshire Police Hunt for Stolen Guinness Worth £115,000

Police in northwest England are investigating the theft of two trailer loads of Guinness, a haul worth an estimated £115,000 ($155,000). The Cheshire Constabulary reported on Thursday that the trailers, containing roughly 800 barrels of stout — equivalent to about 70,000 pints — were taken from an industrial park in Runcorn, near Liverpool.

The theft occurred on Monday night when two drivers arrived at the depot and drove off with the trailers. The beer was intended for distribution to pubs. Authorities have placed the value of the trailers themselves at an additional £50,000 ($67,000).

Detective Sergeant Gary McClatchy acknowledged the unusual nature of the crime, quipping that while the saying goes 'Guinness is good for you,' that only holds true when the product has been legitimately purchased. He stated that investigators are seeking the complete recovery of all stolen goods.

The incident follows a separate, high-profile beer theft in the United States, where roughly 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon were stolen from a warehouse in Southern California. In that case, the brewer used social media to address the thief directly, offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the return of the beer, which was valued at $70,000.
