Gujarat High Court Dismisses Kejriwal's Appeal, Upholds Rs 25,000 Fine in PM Modi Degree Case

The Gujarat High Court has dismissed an appeal filed by Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the disclosure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree, upholding a Rs 25,000 fine imposed on him by a single-judge bench.

A two-judge division bench delivered the verdict after having earlier reserved its judgment in the matter. The court found no merit in Kejriwal's challenge and declined to interfere with the earlier ruling.

The dispute traces back to a direction by the Central Information Commission asking Gujarat University to furnish details of Prime Minister Modi's degree. Gujarat University then moved the high court against the information commission's order, naming Kejriwal as a party to the proceedings.

A single-judge bench subsequently set aside the Central Information Commission's direction and levied a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal. He then filed a review petition before the same judge seeking relief, which was dismissed.

Kejriwal next approached the division bench, asking it to set aside the single judge's order. The bench heard the matter at length before reserving its verdict, which has now been pronounced, leaving the fine and the earlier order intact.
