Gurugram hit-and-run: driver held, attempt-to-murder charge added to FIR

Gurugram Police have arrested the man accused of knocking down a woman biker on Golf Course Road and fleeing the spot, and have added a charge of attempt to murder to the case after reviewing CCTV footage of the collision.

The accused, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, was taken into custody in Rajgarh, Rajasthan, and was being brought back to Gurugram, ACP Abhilaksh Joshi said.

The case was registered at the Sector 56 police station after a video of the collision circulated widely on social media on Monday. The police had taken suo motu cognisance of the clip and opened an investigation.

As part of that probe, officers examined CCTV footage from the area. On the basis of what the footage showed, Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with attempt to murder, was added to the first information report. The provision carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.

The injured rider, Sia, also approached the police station with a written complaint on Monday night.

She has alleged that Bainsla's car trailed her before striking her motorcycle on Golf Course Road and driving away. She was thrown off her bike in the impact and sustained injuries to her knees.

Bainsla has denied deliberately hitting the rider, describing the collision as accidental, and has also denied leaving the scene.

The arrest followed a day of mounting public pressure, with social media users urging the Gurugram Police to identify the driver and act against him.
