Gutha Sukhender Reddy pitches for Cabinet reshuffle, discipline in Telangana Congress

Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy has urged the ruling Congress to reshuffle the State Cabinet and ensure greater discipline within the party, saying these steps could help the government win a second term.

Speaking informally in the Legislative Council, Mr. Reddy said a Cabinet reshuffle would bring "newness" to the administration. He described Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy as "young and dynamic" and appealed to party leaders to "sail with him without creating unnecessary obstacles."

The Council Chairman also stressed the need for strict action against leaders who cross the party line, warning that a lack of discipline could hurt the Congress. He said if such issues were addressed, the party could return to power.

On land matters, Mr. Reddy recommended abolishing Section 22-A of the Registration Act, which places restrictions on certain properties. He noted that the provision existed during the previous BRS regime as well, but argued it should now be scrapped to resolve related controversies.

Mr. Reddy also offered suggestions on welfare programmes. He proposed enhancing the existing pension of ₹2,000 and continuing the Rythu Bharosa scheme, but with benefits limited to eligible farmers. He said the Congress government was continuing some BRS schemes while introducing new ones, and claimed there was no widespread dissatisfaction among the public over welfare measures. However, he emphasised the need for better publicity so that people are aware of the benefits available to them.
