Guwahati Police Recover Fridge, Weapon in Beheading Case
Police seized the fridge used to store a murdered woman's severed head, along with clothes and a suspected weapon, during a court-sanctioned visit.
Investigators in Guwahati have recovered key evidence in the murder of 25-year-old Riya Talukdar, whose severed head was found in a refrigerator at her home. The police, accompanied by a magistrate, took the primary accused—her husband, Ramanuj Goswami—back to the residence on Wednesday to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The entire exercise was recorded on video as officials examined the premises. Among the items seized were the refrigerator where the victim's head was allegedly stored, the clothing she was wearing at the time of the attack, and a sharp weapon believed to have been used in the crime.
Authorities are also looking into claims that Goswami, who reportedly suspected his wife of having an affair, may have attempted to sever other body parts but was unsuccessful. He surrendered after the discovery of the body and has been remanded to seven days of police custody.
During a court appearance on Tuesday, Goswami reportedly expressed no remorse, stating he would not apologise. He was quoted as saying that after serving his sentence, he would harm the person he believed was involved with his wife.
