Guwahati Murder Accused Vows to Kill 'Sugar Daddy' After Jail Term

A man arrested for the murder of his wife in Guwahati has made a startling threat while in police custody. Ramanuj Goswami told reporters on Tuesday that after serving his jail term, he would kill the person he referred to as his wife's "sugar daddy." He made the statement as he was being produced before a court, a day after being remanded to seven days of police custody.

Goswami, who reportedly showed no remorse, told journalists, "I have no regrets, no apologies." When pressed to identify the individual he threatened, he became agitated and behaved rudely with the media.

The case came to light on September 6 when neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the couple's apartment. Residents also noted that the newlyweds had not been seen for two days and that their mobile phones were switched off.

Police broke open the lock and discovered the body of 25-year-old Riya Talukdar inside. Investigators found that her fingers had been partially chopped and her head was missing. A subsequent search of the apartment led to the recovery of the severed head from a refrigerator, where it was kept in a polythene bag.

Goswami, who had married Talukdar only a few months ago, had been missing since Friday. He surrendered to police late Sunday night. Investigators suspect he attacked his wife with a sharp weapon following an altercation. They are now questioning him to establish the motive and are probing the identity of the person he called the "sugar daddy." The body and severed head have been sent for autopsy.
