Guwahati Woman's Severed Head Found in Fridge; Husband Held
Assam police found a woman's headless body in Guwahati; her severed head was in the fridge. Husband arrested.
Guwahati police on Sunday night recovered the body of a 25-year-old woman from her apartment in the Beltola area, following complaints from neighbours about a strong odour emanating from the flat.
The victim, identified as Riya Talukdar, a boutique employee, had been living in the apartment since her marriage in September 2025. When police broke the lock to enter, they found her partially decomposed body on the floor. Her severed head, wrapped in a polythene bag, was discovered inside the refrigerator. Her fingers had also been cut off.
Her husband, Ramanujan Goswami, who works as a cab driver, was arrested after surrendering to the authorities. According to an investigating officer, the couple had frequent quarrels, and the husband alleged that his wife was in an extramarital relationship. The officer said Goswami admitted to losing his temper during a fight on September 3 and killing her.
A machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene. The police have registered a case and sent the body to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
