Guwahati Woman Found Dead, Husband Held After Surrender
A 25-year-old woman was found murdered in her Guwahati home, her body severed and head stored in a fridge. Her husband surrendered and was arrested.
A 25-year-old woman was found dead under gruesome circumstances in her Guwahati apartment on Sunday, just months after her marriage. The victim, identified as Riya Talukdar, was discovered with her body severed, fingers half-chopped, and head missing.
Police were alerted after neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the residence. They also reported that the couple had not been seen for two days and their phones were switched off. When officers broke the lock and entered the apartment, they found the decomposed body. A subsequent search of the house led to the recovery of the woman's head, wrapped in a polythene bag and stored inside the refrigerator.
The husband was missing at the time of the discovery, with neighbours saying they last saw him on Friday. The body and the severed head were sent for autopsy. Later on Sunday night, the husband surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
Investigators are expected to record the accused's statement and cross-check it with the evidence collected. The motive behind the killing has not yet been disclosed, nor have details of the circumstances leading to his surrender. Police are also examining the sequence of events and whether anyone else was involved. Further details are awaited.
