Outsourcing staff body seeks ₹50 lakh relief, jobs after three HMWSSB deaths
Telangana Outsourcing Employees JAC has demanded ₹50 lakh ex-gratia and a government job for each family of three HMWSSB outsourcing workers who died within 24 hours.
The Telangana Outsourcing Employees JAC has demanded ₹50 lakh in ex-gratia compensation for the family of each of three outsourcing employees of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) who died within a span of 24 hours, along with a government job for one member of every affected household.
The workers who died were identified as Srihari of Moula Ali, Vinay of Peddapur and Kiran Kumar of Qutbullapur. Two of the three were meter readers, the committee said.
JAC leaders were stopped and removed by police on Sunday while they were on their way to meet the bereaved families.
Beyond immediate relief, the committee pressed the Board to reduce work pressure without delay, guarantee job security and order a comprehensive inquiry into the working conditions and salaries of outsourcing employees. It said delays in the payment of salaries were adding to the financial and mental strain on workers who already face uncertainty over their jobs, staff shortages and rising workloads.
The JAC asked the Board to immediately register the details of outsourcing employees on the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMS) portal. It also opposed new commission-based tender policies for meter readers, arguing that the change could cost experienced existing workers their jobs.
Among those present were Prithviraj, Puli Lakshmaiah, Balakrishna Reddy and Suresh Goud, among other leaders.
