Houthi Missile and Drone Strikes Hit Yemeni Port City of Mokha
Houthi rebels struck Mokha, Marib, and Hadramout, killing dozens, as attacks on Saudi oil facilities and Red Sea shipping intensify.
Yemen's Houthi rebels have launched a series of missile and drone attacks on the government-held Red Sea port city of Mokha and other regions, marking a significant escalation in the country's long-running conflict.
Night-time footage from Mokha on Tuesday showed thick plumes of smoke rising above buildings after the strikes. The Yemeni military reported that the rebels hit the city with missiles and drones over the weekend, killing at least seven people, including three soldiers.
Mokha serves as a vital port for Yemen's internationally recognized government. It has undergone significant renovation to handle commercial shipping, offering an alternative to the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeida.
Beyond Mokha, the military said the Houthis also targeted the central provinces of Marib and Hadramout last week. Those attacks reportedly killed dozens of government troops and civilians.
The recent strikes are part of a broader rebel offensive against government forces and their allies. The Houthis have also targeted oil facilities in neighboring Saudi Arabia, a key supporter of the Yemeni government, as well as the kingdom's shipping interests in the Red Sea.
