Fresh satellite imagery has revealed the extent of attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels on oil infrastructure in southern Saudi Arabia, showing thick plumes of black smoke billowing from Saudi Aramco facilities north of Abha.
The strikes, which occurred early Tuesday, targeted what the Saudi-led coalition described as "civilian and economic facilities" across the cities of Abha, Jazan, Najran, and Khamis Mushait. According to coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki, 73 people were wounded, including women and children.
The attacks came just hours after the Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia for an airstrike on a prison in Yemen's northern province of Jawf, which killed at least seven people, including a child, and wounded seven others.
Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry confirmed that the attacks ignited fires at several oil facilities and utilities in the kingdom's southern region. Operations at the affected installations have been temporarily suspended as authorities assess the damage.
Al-Malki characterized the rebel assault as a "serious escalation" and vowed that the coalition would retaliate. The imagery, captured on September 8, 2026, provides visual confirmation of the impact on critical energy infrastructure in the region.
