Houthi TV Airs Footage of Captured Areas Near Mokha as Red Sea Front Widens
Houthi-run Al Masirah aired footage of areas it says its forces captured near Mokha, including two junctions and Camp Khalid ibn al-Walid.
Yemen's Houthi-controlled broadcaster Al Masirah has aired footage it says shows territory seized by the rebels, including Al-Mokha Junction, Al-Wazi'iyah Junction and Camp Khalid ibn al-Walid near Mokha in Taiz province.
The broadcast, aired on 11 September 2026, followed the Houthis' capture of a strategic island at the southern entrance to the Red Sea, a move confirmed by two officials. The advance opens a new front in the Iran war and further threatens Saudi oil exports through one of the world's key shipping lanes.
In the footage, a reporter travelling along a road near Al-Mokha Junction says the area has been secured after the departure of forces described as the Saudi enemy. At Al-Wazi'iyah Junction, the reporter says armed forces are spreading through the area and removing barricades to reopen the road.
At Camp Khalid ibn al-Walid, located about 40 kilometres from Mokha City, the reporter points to rubble and destroyed buildings along the roadside, describing the site as cleared and secured. A separate segment shows damaged structures and debris at Al-Mokha Junction.
The territorial gains along the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are the Houthis' largest in years and could bolster Iran's strategy of driving up world oil and gas prices to pressure the United States.
Saudi Arabia struck the airport in the nearby port city of Mokha that the Houthis seized on Thursday, according to the Houthi broadcaster. No damage or deaths were reported.
