Houthi missile strike on Yemen displacement camp sparks fear in Marib

A missile strike on a camp housing displaced families in the eastern Yemeni city of Marib has left at least two people dead and 14 others injured, according to Yemen's internationally recognized government.

Video footage from the scene shows crated and damaged tents in the area where the missile landed. In the footage, a man speaking Arabic says a Houthi missile or rocket struck a tent containing a family, adding that while there were no physical injuries in that particular tent, widespread fear has gripped the displaced families.

Qassem Bahaibah, the health minister in Yemen's internationally recognized government, said in a social media statement that the attacks targeted a refugee camp and residential areas. The Houthis have not immediately claimed responsibility for the strike.

A military official in Marib, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the missiles were fired from west of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

Separately, the rebel group struck the Najran region in southwestern Saudi Arabia near the Yemeni border on Thursday. Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki, the official spokesperson of the Saudi-led coalition, confirmed the attack in a statement on X, saying it wounded 11 civilians, including a woman and a child who suffered second-degree burns. He accused the rebels of carrying out indiscriminate shelling against civilian objects.

The attacks mark a significant escalation since a truce in 2022 largely halted fighting in the conflict, which pits the Iran-backed Houthis against a Saudi-led coalition allied with Yemen's internationally recognized government.
