Paramount Developing 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' Sequel

Paramount is in early development on a sequel to the 2003 rom-com 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days', with Kate Hudson producing.

Paramount Pictures has begun early development on a sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days'. Kate Hudson, who starred in the original, is attached to produce the follow-up, with the studio aiming to bring back her co-star Matthew McConaughey as well.

The project is still in its formative stages. While the intention is for both Hudson and McConaughey to reprise their roles, no formal cast agreements are in place. The sequel currently has neither a writer attached nor a logline, and further details are expected as development moves forward.

The original film, directed by Donald Petrie, centered on magazine writer Andie Anderson (Hudson) and advertising executive Benjamin Barry (McConaughey). The pair enter a relationship with opposing goals: Andie plans to drive Benjamin away to write a story about it, while Benjamin bets he can make her fall in love within ten days. Their schemes unravel as genuine feelings emerge.

Released in February 2003, the movie earned over USD 178 million worldwide. Its screenplay was written by Kristen Buckley, Brian Regan, and Burr Steers, with Lynda Obst, Robert Evans, and Christine Peters producing.

Hudson, who recently received her second Oscar nomination for the drama 'Song Sung Blue', currently stars in the Netflix comedy 'Running Point', which has been renewed for a third season.

Producer Stacey Sher, who is also attached to the sequel, brings recent credits including A24's 'Heretic' and Chris Pine's 'Poolman'. Her upcoming projects include the thriller 'Verity', directed by Michael Showalter and based on Colleen Hoover's novel, scheduled for release on October 2. She is also producing David Fincher's sequel to 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', set for an IMAX release on November 25 before arriving on Netflix on December 23.
