Huawei Debuts Tri-Fold Mate XT 2 With Kirin 9050 Pro Ahead of Apple Event
Huawei launched the Mate XT 2 tri-fold smartphone with the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, featuring LogicFolding technology under the Tau Scaling Law.
Huawei has unveiled its latest tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT 2, at its flagship store on Nanjing Road East in Shanghai. The device, which went on display on September 7, will officially go on sale on September 12 at 10:08 a.m. local time, with a starting price of 19,999 yuan (approximately $2,980).
The Mate XT 2 is powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, which Huawei says delivers performance more than 42 percent higher than the previous generation. The chip is the first commercial processor to incorporate LogicFolding technology, developed under Huawei's newly proposed Tau (τ) Scaling Law.
Unlike conventional approaches that focus on shrinking transistors to boost performance, Huawei's Tau Scaling Law aims to shorten signal transmission paths within the chip. LogicFolding uses vertical interconnections to reduce signal delays, an alternative method that is now entering the consumer market with this launch.
The new device features a U-shaped, inward-folding design, which Huawei describes as a "wing-spreading" tri-fold. The flexible display folds completely inward, while a separate outer display provides access when the phone is closed. The device also includes a privacy display function called "Blue Shield," which switches the phone to privacy mode with a single tap on the rear screen.
Shoppers at the flagship store expressed admiration for the device's engineering. One consumer from Taiwan noted how remarkable it was that Huawei could make the central processor so thin and small.
The launch comes just ahead of Apple's fall product event, scheduled for 1:00 a.m. Beijing time on September 10, where the US tech giant is widely expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone.
