Six held for Hubballi daylight murder; kin of two victims plotted revenge
Hubballi police arrested six people for the August 28 murder of Dadapeer Udaykar, allegedly an act of revenge for two earlier deaths.
The Hubballi police have arrested six individuals in connection with the broad daylight murder of a 35-year-old man on August 28. The accused were taken into custody on Monday and subsequently remanded in judicial custody the following day.
The deceased has been identified as Dadapeer Udaykar. Those arrested are Virendra Talakal, Deepak Chalavadi, Shakuntala Talakal, Rakshit Bandiwaddar, Taufeeq Horakeri, and Farooq Naragund.
According to investigators, the killing was an act of vengeance. Udaykar had previously been accused in the 2015 murder of Maruti Talakal in Hubballi and was also a suspect in the 2023 accidental death of Raju Chalavadi in the Dharwad rural area. However, he was acquitted of these charges by a court and had since relocated to Bogenagarakoppa in Kalaghatagi taluk, where he took up farming.
Police said family members of the two deceased men had been monitoring Udaykar's movements for months, waiting for an opportunity to strike. The preliminary investigation suggests that Virendra Talakal, the prime accused, was driven by a desire to avenge his brother's murder.
Soon after the killing, Virendra reportedly informed his mother, Shakuntala Talakal, who allegedly provided him with money and advised him to flee. The accused had also shaved their heads in an attempt to conceal their identities. Police have additionally arrested those who supplied weapons and arranged vehicles for the accused.
