Hubballi-Dharwad Police Launch Anti-Stabbing Squads Ahead of Ganesha Festival

The Hubballi-Dharwad police have activated dedicated anti-stabbing squads across all police stations in the twin cities, fulfilling a commitment made by the newly appointed Police Commissioner, Bhushan Borase, during his first media interaction after taking charge.

The squads began field operations on Sunday, with officers conducting intensive vehicle checks. On the inaugural day alone, more than 215 vehicles were inspected as part of the drive.

The initiative is a direct response to a recent spate of stabbing incidents in the region and serves as a precautionary measure with the Ganesha festival approaching. Commissioner Borase personally led the first round of checks, issuing a stern warning that individuals found engaging in anti-social behaviour would face strict consequences. He clarified that anyone found in possession of weapons would be booked under the Arms Act.

To reinforce the campaign, the police department has distributed posters across the cities. These materials urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious or illegal activity to the authorities promptly.

In a related development on Monday, police apprehended a youth identified as Gangadhar Anand Madiwalar, a resident of Eshwar Nagar in Old Hubballi. His arrest followed the circulation of a video clip on his Instagram account showing him walking in a group while brandishing a sword on a public street.
