Human skull found in waste heap near Kozhikode railway station
A human skull was discovered in a waste heap on a lane near Kozhikode railway station, prompting a police investigation and forensic examination.
A human skull was recovered from a heap of waste on a narrow lane close to the Kozhikode railway station on Sunday, September 20, following which the Town police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
The remains were spotted along the lane that runs from Platform No. 4 of the station towards the Valayannagadi area. A passenger who noticed the skull while walking through the lane in the morning informed the police.
The location is an unoccupied plot owned by private individuals and is reportedly used for dumping waste. Investigators suspect the skull may have been dislodged from the waste heap and ended up beside the road.
A team from the Town police, along with a dog squad, examined the spot. A search was also carried out with the help of sanitation workers from the Kozhikode Corporation to check whether any other human remains were present in the area. Police sources said no additional remains were found.
A preliminary assessment suggests the skull belongs to a person who died one to two years ago. Forensic and DNA examinations are to be conducted to establish the identity of the deceased and to determine whether the remains were those of a man or a woman.
