Hyderabad district administration orders fever surveys, healthcare overhaul

Hyderabad District Collector Priyanka Ala has directed health officials to strengthen disease surveillance and improve the quality of care at government medical institutions across the district. The instructions came on Monday following a surprise inspection of the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Bowenpally.

During the visit, the Collector reviewed the facility's operations, examined official records, and spoke with patients to gauge the standard of treatment being provided. She toured several sections, including the diagnostic laboratory and the medical store, and checked registers related to outpatient numbers, vaccinations, medicine inventories, antenatal care, and staff attendance.

A key directive issued was the conduct of cluster-wise, door-to-door fever surveys throughout the district. The aim is to identify individuals suffering from fever-related ailments and ensure they receive prompt medical attention. This measure is intended to bolster the district's disease surveillance framework.

Ms. Ala also emphasized the need for strict punctuality among medical personnel and called for maintaining high standards of cleanliness both inside healthcare premises and in their immediate surroundings.

To prevent shortages, officials were told to submit medicine indents well in advance and keep adequate buffer stocks. Additionally, the Collector instructed that patients undergo necessary diagnostic tests before the commencement of treatment. The directives are aimed at ensuring that government hospitals and primary health centres deliver reliable and accessible healthcare services.
