Hyderabad to become India's first global knowledge hub with UK, US universities
Hyderabad is set to become India's first global knowledge hub, with top UK and US universities planning offshore campuses, research centres and executive programmes.
Hyderabad is poised to become India's first and largest global knowledge hub, with several leading universities from the UK and the US planning to establish a presence in the city. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reviewed the outcomes of his recent visit to the UK, along with IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and the subsequent US tour by senior officials, on Monday.
The University of London, a federation of 17 institutions, and Northeastern University in Boston are set to establish their first offshore campuses in India in Hyderabad. The London School of Economics and the School of Oriental and African Studies have agreed to send teams to Telangana to explore offshore schools, course offerings, industry interaction, pedagogical models and classroom-based programmes, with faculty members potentially stationed in the city.
Harvard University has expressed intent to introduce short-term executive education programmes for senior government and corporate professionals at the Dr MCR HRD Institute. Virginia Tech is expected to bring industry-aligned and future-ready learning frameworks to the state, while Oxford University will explore establishing shared research centres and centres of excellence.
The delegation also held discussions with representatives and senior faculty from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, London Business School, Cambridge University and Imperial College London.
The Chief Minister said his government would bring the best educational offerings to the youth of Telangana, building on Hyderabad's existing strengths in software, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, manufacturing, defence and aerospace.
Dr MCR HRD Institute vice-chairperson Santhi Kumari said classrooms at the institute are being redesigned to facilitate world-class education programmes. Chief Minister's adviser and former Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao said the hub would initially be developed at the MCR-HRD Institute and subsequently at Bharat Future City.
