Hyderabad auto driver stabbed to death after confronting daughter's alleged harasser

A 55-year-old auto driver was killed and his son injured in Madannapet after confronting a youth over alleged harassment of his daughter.

A 55-year-old auto driver was allegedly stabbed to death at his home in Madannapet on Thursday evening, after he confronted a youth over the alleged harassment of his daughter, police said.

The victim, Mohd Hasmath Ali Khan, is said to have questioned Habeeb Mohammad, aged around 27, and warned him against harassing his daughter. The confrontation, which took place at Hasmath's house in Bagh-e-Jahara, escalated into violence when Habeeb allegedly attacked him with a knife, killing him on the spot.

When Hasmath's son, Omar, tried to intervene, he was also allegedly attacked and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to a private hospital for treatment.

Madannapet police reached the scene after being alerted and registered a case. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the locality to piece together the sequence of events and trace the suspect.

The killing comes amid a series of murders reported in Hyderabad during September, several of which involved knives or sickles, though the motives in those cases have varied.
