Hyderabad Man Stabbed to Death Over Suspected Drug Tip-Off to Police

A 32-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death in Hyderabad's Upparpally area on Thursday evening, with police saying his two associates attacked him after suspecting that he was passing information about their drug-peddling activities to the authorities.

The victim was identified as Md Waseem, though some accounts gave his name as Nazeer Ahmed. The attack took place around 5.30 pm on the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway.

According to the police, Waseem met the two suspects, identified as Sohail (also referred to as Shoaib) and Ilyas, when an argument broke out among them. The pair allegedly set upon him with knives and fled the spot. Waseem sustained serious injuries and died while being taken to hospital.

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the victim with four other men. Two of them suddenly begin hitting and pushing him, and the altercation escalates as one accused stabs him while the other kicks him repeatedly. The remaining two men attempt to intervene but are unable to stop the attack, and the assailant continues to stab Waseem multiple times.

Rajendranagar ACP T. Srinivas said the preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects believed Waseem was leaking information about their ganja sales to the police, and decided to kill him. He said teams had launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

Police added that Waseem and the accused had previously been booked in drug-peddling cases. A murder case has been registered, and special teams have been deployed to trace the suspects. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage and other evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The killing comes amid a spate of murder cases reported across Hyderabad this year, with the city recording 10 such cases in September alone.
