Bike mechanic held in 30 hours for murder, rape of nurse in Hyderabad

Hyderabad police have arrested a 34-year-old bike mechanic in connection with the murder and alleged rape of a 21-year-old nurse in Thukkuguda. The accused, identified as Md. Sanaullah, a native of Begusarai district in Bihar, was taken into custody on the evening of August 30, within 30 hours of the complaint being filed.

The case came to light when the victim's aunt lodged a complaint at around 3.20 p.m. on August 29. The aunt had been alerted by a friend of the victim, who said the nurse had not emerged from her room since morning and was not responding to knocks. Police entered the room through a window and found the woman dead, with bleeding injuries on her face.

Investigators said technical evidence and specific information led them to Sanaullah. He had moved to Hyderabad in 2023 and learned bike-mechanic work in Uppal. Around two months ago, he shifted to Thukkuguda and began working at a local bike repair shop.

Police allege that Sanaullah had noticed the woman through a rear-side window of the shop about a month before the incident and had been observing her movements. He is accused of planning to sexually assault her. During the intervening night of August 28 and 29, he allegedly entered her room through a window around 12.30 a.m.

When the woman woke up and raised an alarm, Sanaullah allegedly covered her mouth and grabbed her throat. In the ensuing struggle, she reportedly bit his left little finger and scratched his throat and chest. Police said he then assaulted her on the face, pushed her down, strangled her, and sexually assaulted her before leaving through the window.

A mobile phone and clothes belonging to the accused have been seized. Police said scientific, technical, and other corroborative evidence is being collected and analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.
