Hyderabad Police Moves Court to Cancel Bail of Two BRS MLCs

Saifabad police have approached a court seeking cancellation of the bail granted to two BRS MLCs, Tata Madhu and Naveen Reddy, who were arrested under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act over alleged abusive remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

The two legislators were taken into custody on Tuesday after complaints were filed over their alleged remarks against the Speaker. Police had sought their remand, but the court turned down the plea and released them on personal sureties.

On Thursday, the police returned to the court with a fresh petition asking that the relief granted to the two MLCs be withdrawn.

The case is the latest development in a widening confrontation involving the BRS, which began with a clash between the party's legislators and police at Gate No. 3 of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The arrest of the two MLCs under the SC/ST Act had already set off a political row, with BRS leaders questioning the police action and demanding an independent examination of CCTV footage from the Assembly gate incident.

The petition seeking cancellation of bail adds a further legal dimension to the standoff, which has so far produced multiple FIRs, arrests and the suspension of BRS legislators from the Assembly for the remainder of the monsoon session.
