Hyderabad Sub-Inspector Dies After Being Hit by Bike During Ganesh Immersion Duty
A 55-year-old Sub-Inspector on Ganesh immersion duty in Hyderabad died after a motorcycle hit him near Tank Bund; police have launched a hit-and-run investigation.
A 55-year-old police Sub-Inspector died after being knocked down by a motorcycle while on duty for a Ganesh immersion procession in Hyderabad, police said.
K Venkanna was deployed near Crane No. 2 on NTR Marg at Tank Bund, where arrangements were in place for the immersion. The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to police, an unidentified man riding a motorcycle allegedly struck the Sub-Inspector and fled the scene. Venkanna lost his balance and fell onto the road.
Bystanders rushed to help him after the collision. Venkanna is said to have initially believed his injuries were minor and continued towards Warangal. On reaching the area, however, he developed giddiness and growing discomfort, following which his family shifted him to MGM Hospital in Warangal.
He died during treatment.
Police have registered a case and opened an investigation into the hit-and-run. CCTV footage from the Tank Bund and NTR Marg area, along with other available evidence, is being examined to identify and trace the motorcycle and its rider.
Around 20,000 police personnel have been deployed across Hyderabad city for the Ganesh immersion arrangements.
