IAEA Board Reports Iran to UN Security Council for First Time in Two Decades

The resolution, tabled by the United States, Britain, France, and Germany, was approved by 23 of the board's 35 member states during a meeting at the IAEA's headquarters in Vienna. China, Russia, and Niger voted against the measure, while eight countries abstained and one member did not participate due to arrears in its financial obligations.
The decision marks a new chapter in the long-running standoff over Iran's nuclear activities, sending the matter from the IAEA's technical forum to the highest UN body, which has the authority to impose sanctions. Diplomats suggest the move is intended to pressure Tehran into providing the transparency that inspectors have sought for years.
