A Class XII student in Kumily, Idukki, suffered a serious head injury when an iron rod allegedly swung by a fellow student struck him during a football game.

A Plus Two student has been admitted to a hospital in Pala with a critical head injury after an incident on his school ground in Idukki on Tuesday evening.

The injured boy has been identified as Sharan, a Class XII student at Government Higher Secondary School, Kumily, and a resident of Anavilasam.

According to initial accounts provided by his friends, the students had gathered on the school ground to play football. During the game, one of them is said to have swung an iron rod, which struck Sharan on the head.

He sustained a serious head injury and was first taken to a private hospital nearby. He was later shifted to a hospital in Pala, in Kottayam district, for advanced treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.

The Kumily police have taken three students who were present at the scene into custody for questioning. Preliminary investigations point to the injury being accidental, but forensic and fingerprint experts visited the ground to collect evidence.
