IIL Says Seized Rabies Vaccine Vials Not Its Product, Urges Probe

Indian Immunologicals says vials seized in Delhi are not its product and has sought a probe into their source.

Indian Immunologicals Ltd (IIL) has clarified that rabies vaccine vials seized during a recent regulatory action in Delhi are not manufactured by the company. The statement comes after healthcare professionals raised queries about a specific batch of its Abhayrab vaccine.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), during an enforcement drive, drew samples of the vaccine from an unlicensed residential premises in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi. The vials carried the label of Abhayrab with batch number KE25012. Upon analysis, the samples were reported as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) and misbranded.

IIL, which markets the Abhayrab vaccine, said the vials examined are not a product manufactured by the Human Biologicals Institute. The company also noted that it has not received any market complaint regarding batch number KE25012.

In response to the development, IIL said it submitted its batch manufacturing, quality control, reconciliation, and distribution records to the CDSCO on August 14. The company has urged the authorities to trace the source of these vials and take action against those responsible.
