IIT Mandi Seeks New Director: Applications Open Until October 2026

Ministry of Education invites applications for IIT Mandi Director post. Five-year term, Rs 2.25 lakh monthly salary, applications due Oct 31, 2026.

The Ministry of Education has invited applications for the position of Director at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi. The appointment will be for a term of five years, or until the candidate reaches the age of 70, whichever comes first. The selection will be made based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee.

Eligibility Requirements

Aspiring candidates must hold a Ph.D. along with a first-class degree at the preceding level, preferably in Engineering. In exceptional cases, those with qualifications in Science, Mathematics, or Management may also be considered. Applicants should have an excellent academic record and at least 10 years of teaching experience as a Professor at a reputed engineering or technology institute, including experience supervising Ph.D. students.

Additionally, candidates must possess a minimum of five years of administrative experience and demonstrate strong leadership capabilities. While there is no strict upper age limit, preference will be given to candidates who are below 60 years of age as of the last date for submission of applications.

Salary and Application Process

The selected candidate will receive a monthly salary of Rs 2,25,000, along with allowances as per government norms. Interested individuals are required to submit their resume in the prescribed format, detailing their teaching, research, industry-academia collaboration, and administrative experience. They must also provide a two-page justification for their candidature and a two-page vision statement for the institute.

Applications, duly filled and signed, must be sent via Registered or Speed Post to the Ministry of Education by October 31, 2026. The current Director, Laxmidhar Behera, will see his term conclude in December 2026.
