IMF to help Ukraine secure part of 2026 funding, Zelenskiy says
Ukraine's president says the IMF will help find part of the funding needed to keep the country financially stable in 2026.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the International Monetary Fund will assist in locating part of the financing Ukraine requires to preserve financial and economic stability next year, following a meeting with IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva on Tuesday.
Securing money for 2026 and 2027 remains a central difficulty for Ukraine as its war with Russia continues into a fifth year. Officials have said the country needs roughly $52.6 billion in international financial assistance for next year alone.
In a message posted on the Telegram app alongside video of the meeting, Zelenskiy said Russian attacks are aimed not only at destroying lives but also at disrupting the operation of businesses and the state as much as possible. He described macrofinancial assistance as especially important for Ukraine at present.
The discussions with the IMF leadership signal continued engagement with international lenders as Kyiv works to line up support for its budget and economy over the coming years.
