India Energy Week 2027 to be held in Kolkata, focus on energy security

India Energy Week 2027, the fifth edition of the country's flagship energy conclave, will be held in Kolkata from January 28 to 31, the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Monday. The event will centre on the technologies, innovations and partnerships required to safeguard energy security, affordability and sustainability, with particular attention to the Global South.

The ministry said the gathering comes at a time when energy security, affordability, technology, investment and sustainability are increasingly interlinked, and it is expected to help shape practical responses to the pressures facing the global oil and gas sector.

The announcement follows a period of heightened volatility in international oil markets, driven by the continuing conflict in West Asia and planned additional US tariffs on major importers of Russian crude, including India.

Speaking at a curtain-raiser event for the conclave, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that although international energy flows had come under considerable strain, the disruptions had not produced shortages for Indian households. He attributed this to years of diversified sourcing, expanded refining and pipeline infrastructure, higher storage capacity and a series of policy reforms.

Puri said the country currently holds around 80 days of reserves, counting crude held in strategic reserves, pipelines, refineries and in transit.

The theme for the 2027 edition will be "Unlocking Innovation, Securing Energy and Shaping Tomorrow", which the minister said reflects three priorities that will increasingly shape the global energy landscape. Securing energy, he noted, now extends beyond simply ensuring supplies to encompass reliability, affordability, diversified sources, stronger domestic production and system-wide resilience.

This will be the first time the event is staged in Kolkata. Earlier editions were held in Bengaluru, Delhi and Goa.

According to the ministry, the fifth edition is expected to draw more than 75,000 energy professionals and over 700 international exhibitors, along with senior decision-makers from the energy sector.
