India's EV retail sales hit record high in July 2026, up 66% YoY

India's EV retail sales hit a record 3,27,901 units in July 2026, up 66% YoY, with two-wheelers crossing 2 lakh units.

India's electric vehicle (EV) retail market reached a new milestone in July 2026, with total registrations climbing to 3,27,901 units. This marks a year-on-year growth of over 66 per cent, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

Electric vehicles accounted for nearly one in every eight vehicles sold in the country during the month. The surge comes amid concerns that renewed disruptions in West Asia could push oil prices higher and reignite inflation, potentially influencing more consumers to switch to electric mobility.

FADA Vice President Sai Giridhar highlighted the scale of the achievement, noting that India has never bought more electric vehicles in a single month. He emphasised that the transition is no longer a forecast but a showroom reality, with adoption spreading across regions.

Two-wheelers lead the charge

The electric two-wheeler segment crossed the two-lakh unit threshold for the first time, recording a market share of 11.2 per cent in July 2026. This is up from 10.6 per cent in June 2026 and 7.7 per cent in July 2025.

Electric three-wheelers continued their dominance, achieving a 65.1 per cent market share, rising from 62.7 per cent in the previous month and 60.3 per cent in July 2025. Giridhar noted that in this segment, electric has become the default choice rather than an alternative.

Commercial and passenger segments gain ground

The commercial vehicle segment saw electric adoption reach a market share of 3.57 per cent in July 2026, up from 3.54 per cent in June and 1.65 per cent in July 2025. Giridhar said fleet electrification has moved from pilots to purchase orders.

Electric passenger vehicles registered an 83 per cent growth over the previous year, maintaining a market share of 7.9 per cent in July 2026, unchanged from June but higher than the 5.1 per cent recorded in July 2025. Giridhar urged original equipment manufacturers to resolve supply constraints on in-demand models before the festive season rush.
