India Fast-Tracks Electricity Exports to Flood-Hit Nepal

India has cleared the way for electricity to be exported to Nepal on an expedited basis, a step aimed at helping the neighbouring country cope with its power needs in the wake of devastating floods.

The approval was announced by India's Power Ministry, which said the arrangement is intended to support Nepal during a difficult period.

The ministry said the decision would help Nepal meet its electricity requirements and would further strengthen the close and longstanding energy cooperation between the two countries.

India and Nepal share extensive ties in the power sector, with cross-border electricity trade forming a key pillar of their bilateral relationship. The expedited export approval reflects that partnership in practice, allowing power to flow to Nepal at a time when its own systems are under strain from flooding.

New Delhi's move underscores the priority it places on assisting its neighbour during natural disasters, while also reinforcing the energy linkages that have been built up between the two sides over the years.
