India protests to Pakistan over naval collision in North Arabian Sea
India summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires after a Pakistani naval ship collided with an Indian warship in the North Arabian Sea on September 15.
India lodged a strong protest with Pakistan on Wednesday over what it described as the unacceptable and unprofessional conduct of Pakistani naval units at sea, after a Pakistani vessel collided with an Indian Navy warship in the North Arabian Sea.
The Charge d'Affaires of Pakistan's High Commission in New Delhi was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs, where the protest was formally registered.
The collision took place on the evening of September 15, when a Pakistan Naval Ship approached a frontline Indian Naval warship that was carrying out a routine surveillance mission. According to sources, the Pakistani vessel manoeuvred at high speed in an unprofessional and unsafe manner, leading to the collision. No damage has been reported.
In a statement, the MEA said the incident occurred in international waters and did not cause any major damage, but that the conduct of the Pakistani naval ship was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements of April 1991.
The Charge d'Affaires of Pakistan was advised to convey to the concerned Pakistani authorities the need for all military units to observe due care and respect the provisions of the relevant agreements between the two sides in order to prevent any repeat of such incidents.
The Charge d'Affaires of India in Islamabad has also been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
