India protests to Pakistan over naval collision in North Arabian Sea (2026-09-16)

India summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires in New Delhi on Wednesday and lodged a strong protest over the conduct of Pakistani naval units, which it described as unacceptable and unprofessional, following a collision with an Indian Navy vessel in the North Arabian Sea.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the incident occurred in international waters and that no major damage was caused.

According to the Ministry, the Pakistani ship's actions ran directly counter to Article 10 of the April 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements.

The Pakistani Charge d'Affaires was asked to convey to the authorities in Islamabad that all military units must exercise due care and respect the provisions of relevant bilateral agreements so that such incidents do not recur.

Separately, India instructed its Charge d'Affaires in Islamabad to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Reports indicate that a Pakistan Navy ship approached a frontline Indian Navy warship at high speed on the evening of September 15, while the Indian vessel was carrying out a routine surveillance mission. The Pakistani vessel is said to have manoeuvred in an unprofessional and unsafe manner, leading to the collision. No damage was reported.
